I just love that I receive requests from all over the country for help with branding and new logo designs. As some of you may know, I am quite found of California (where my family lives and where my hubby and I got married), and therefore was especially thrilled when a photographer from Santa Barbara happened to stumble upon Limefish Studio and reach out for branding assistance.Working with Nicole on her new logo was such an exciting journey. She had countless fantastic ideas and put so much thought and meaning into every piece that I truly believe we ended with a unique and personal logo design!
During the beginning of a rebranding process, I always have my clients complete a simple questionnaire to gauge their styles, goals, and preferences. And, now that we’ve finished, it brings great joy to reflect back and see that we remained true to her goals.
“STYLE: intimate, personal, hand-made, friendly, welcoming, serving
WHO WE ARE: family oriented business, husband and wife team, in love, nerdy/geeky (we both hold advanced degrees in biochemistry or cell biology), outdoorsy (we are both climbers, hikers, love camping and outdoors)”
Nicole wanted to start with a clean slate – tossing all previous logo and branding elements out the window. So, our first order of business was finding the right font(s). This definitely took a great deal of time, but as I explain to my clients, it’s often the most crucial part. The text is essentially the first building block… it should be unique, yet clean and legible. The time was well worth it! These two fonts suite her style beautifully. Nicole knew she wanted to incorporate a symbol of some sort… and after a great deal of personal reflection, she choose the leaf for meaningful reasons.
“The leaf concept was born after a discussion I had with my mom. I started telling her about the words I had come up with that best describe my photography business, words like: delicate, earthy, rustic, timeless. She said that those words brought to mind a vision of an ornate gold dipped leaf that had been worn away so that all that was left were the veins. I loved this concept so much that it stuck with me through out the design process. It was a discussion with my husband that brought me to the aspen leaf shape. We were talking about different types of trees that were frequently saw in some of our favorite places. We talked about how much we loved the fall colors of aspen trees lining the creeks in the high Sierras. That night I googled the shape of an aspen leaf and found a photo of a heart shaped leaf. Later that week I was out for a walk in our local park with my husband when I noticed on the ground was a heart shaped leaf. I had never noticed that tree before. Now I incorporate this leaf into my packaging by pressing heart shaped leaves between the pages of my old text books and sending them to my clients as little love notes from my home to theirs… In Celtic tradition, Aspens symbolize Victory, Transformation, and Vision… which is funny because my name means Victory, and transformation and vision are two very important things on a wedding day 🙂 … Also since I am trained as a plant cell biologist I think it is fitting.” – Read more from Nicole about her logo reveal in a blog post here.
One of the things I believe sets Limefish Studio apart from other designers is that I do everything I can to ensure my clients are 100% in love with their new logo. For some people it takes 3 rounds of back-and-forth changes and for some it takes 30. Therefore, all of my branding packages include: “endless concepts/revisions until you LOVE your design + state it’s “final” 🙂
I am beyond thrilled to present the following Branding Board to showcase NICOLE WASKO PHOTOGRAPHY’s new look!
