Ashley & Erik’s wedding was overflowing with love, laughter, and beautiful details. It was honestly the perfect celebration of two of the kindest souls I know, and I feel so honored I was the lucky one to capture the memories (and I have to say thanks for them throwing such a fun party on my birthday 😉 and although I forgot to try the cake, I will say that the cookies were AMAZING). Erik and I actually have known each other since before high school, but lost touch after graduation. I was thrilled to reconnect when they asked me to be their photographer and could tell immediately I was going to love Ashley from our very first phone chat! I was in California at the time and we realized an hour had already passed! I remember being super excited for their engagement session so I could meet her in person. She has an incredible aura about her that simply radiates happiness and kindness and is no doubt the perfect complement to Erik’s genuinely sweet personality!
Ashley and her gals got ready at the gorgeous Congress Hall, while the guys enjoyed playing corn hole over at The Beach Club of Cape May (where the ceremony was later held). Seeing the smile beaming on Ashley’s face all day, there’s no doubt she’s marrying the man of her dreams, and witnessing the tears well in Erik’s eyes as he saw Ashley walking down the aisle towards him seriously melted my heart (as well as every other guest there I’m sure). You know the ceremony was an extra special one too when a butterfly makes a beautifully-timed appearance, fluttering in front of the Bride and Groom for a few moments before making it’s way down the aisle! I also LOVE that their officiant, The Reverend Katie Solter (from the school where Ashley teaches) incorporated adorable quotes of wisdom from several of Ashley’s 5 year-old students giving their advice for a happy marriage:
“Mr. Reeves, make sure you give her flowers ALL THE TIME. Make sure you kiss at the end of every day…… Plant a memory flower in a garden together…… Always, always, always kiss on the lips……. For your anniversary, make sure you go away every year to a very special place….. Don’t forget to have a baby…… and finally, always have a good time, and always say I love you.”
Immediately following family portraits, Ashley, Erik and their wedding party went on a digging hunt for the bottle of bourbon they buried the month prior. However, after endless searching to no prevail (we’re blaming either the current sweeping it away or a lucky beach-goer claiming it), this fun tradition will at least provide fun memories and was successful in warding off the rain! The weather was actually absolutely beautiful, minus the 50 mph winds, which we just embraced as strategic veil/dress/hair wind-blown opportunities for photos!
The reception was held at the beautiful Corinthian Yacht Club of Cape May where the views and sunset were beyond stunning. Ashley’s dad, the Best Man and Maid of Honor all gave incredibly heartfelt speeches that had the entire room echoing with laughter (and happy tears). The remainder of the evening was filled with delicious food, excellent music and SO much dancing! 🙂
I hope you enjoy these photos as a tiny glimpse of a truly memorable wedding!
Many, many thanks to the incredible talented team who helped make it a reality.
