Etsy Spotlight Interview #4 :: Julia e. Dean

With so many incredible artists all over the globe, Etsy serves as a wonderful online community of talented individuals sharing their gifts with the world. I have decided to feature one Etsy shop each month in hopes of not only spreading the beautiful work of others, but also as a way of encouraging you to explore Etsy.

Included in the image above are limefish studio’s top six picks of artwork from this unique shop!

Below is our exclusive interview questionnaire with the Etsy shop owner.

My shop name is…
Julia e. Dean

The logo was created…
by a wonderful friend/graphic designer who created a portfolio website for me. I loved this scrollwork so much, i created a stamp  out of clay and use it in one of my mug designs!

The shop owner is…
… me!

The shop is based out of…

… my home studio in Ithaca, NY. I do not have a retail shop.

This shop first opened…

… October 2011

In my shop you’ll find…

… thoughtful, warm, inspiring clay creations designed especially with function and simple beauty in mind.

My favorite item is…

ooo, i didn’t know this would be such a hard question. no one has ever asked me…functionally, i’m in a “whole hand handle” mood with my coffee mugs these days, so i go for the woodland mug each morning and am disappointed when they are all dirty. but from a design standpoint, i will always be in love with the robins egg mug. i just want to hold it like a sweet gift. and, my third favorite is the mug shot because the photos rock and my brave husband was such a trooper for being the model. he’s a minister, which makes the photo even funnier.

My shop is unique because…

… my designs appeal to a large spectrum of tastes. the porcelain line with robins egg blue glaze is modern and sleek in design. the woodland line appeals to a rustic, warm style.

I draw inspiration from…

… nature and design.

My advice to other Etsy shop owners is…

… in the midst of 800,000 seller, your photos have to set you apart. and to draw repeat shoppers, your customer service should be impeccable.

My work can also be found at…

… i don’t post much of my own work, but i’m definitely addicted to pinterest! http://pinterest.com/juliaedean/

One day I hope to….

… start a  fair trade women’s  pottery co-op in a developing country.

Another Etsy shop I love is…
